The Basque Youth Observatory is organising the course “Managing Anxiety and Emotional Distress: Tools for Working with Young People”. ERNESTO GUTIERREZ CRESPO, a psychologist and educator, will prepare and deliver the course. President of the Basque Psychopedagogy Association and collaborating lecturer at Deusto University and the University of the Basque Country.
The general goal of the course is for participants to learn strategies they can apply to young people and their environment.
Other goals:
- Reflect on the causes of emotional distress in young people and the myths associated with mental and emotional health.
- Guidelines for an emotionally healthy lifestyle.
- Acquire psychological and educational strategies to prevent and manage stress, anxiety and emotional discomfort that are applicable in educational settings.
- Develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills such as empathy, positive thinking, resilience, conflict management, sense of humour, cognitive flexibility and assertiveness, among others, as protective factors for emotional well-being.
- Guidelines to help families to promote the emotional well-being of their young sons and daughters.

The course will be given in SPANISH, although each participant may use Spanish or Basque in their contributions. The material will also be provided in both languages.

Profile of participants: Priority will be given to people who work or cooperate with youths (in agencies, associations, public administrations, companies, educational centres, volunteers...) In addition, the order of registration will be taken into account.
- Men and women dedicated to youth-related work (youth information, town councils, provincial councils, youth and leisure associations, and other entities).
- Social and family educators.
- Secondary education counsellors.
