Collection Gazteak
Monographic sociological studies that try to provide in-depth analyses on a number of important issues in the lives of young people. They are based on qualitative and quantitative studies conducted either by the Basque Youth Observatory or by outsourced authors.

Summary: Basque Youth 2020/2021 is the sixth edition of a series of sociological research that, under the same title, the Basque Youth Observatory carries out every four years. Basque Youth 2020/2021 presents substantial changes derived from the Covid19 pandemic, both in its methodology and in some of its results. The limitations on mobility imposed during the pandemic meant that the research, which was traditionally carried out by means of a household survey and a questionnaire that covered many topics, would be carried out by telephone, reducing the size of the questionnaire, in a first wave in 2020, and subsequently, in 2021, a second wave would be carried out by means of online surveys to address the questions that could not be asked the previous year.

Summary: The Basque Youth Observatory is publishing its latest research paper: “The Emancipation of Basque Youths 2017”. This paper is number 15 of the Gazteak collection that addresses the situation of Basque youths from various points of view.
This report is based on almost 2000 interviews with people aged 16 to 34 and addresses issues, such as the difficulties in achieving independence, preferences regarding ways to access housing, the reasons they prefer to rent or buy, the economic effort required to leave the family home, coexistence models, access to subsidised housing, etc.

Summary:This paper is the 14th report in the Gazteak collection, which analyses the situation of Basque youth and, as it says in the title, addresses employment issues, one of the Basque Government’s current priorities. The ‘Youth and Employment in the Basque Country 2017’ report is based on a household survey involving almost 2000 young people aged 16 to 34. The report studies the labour experience of young people, access to jobs, the type of employment regarding types of contract and working hours, the wages, the percentage of self-employment and salaried employment, the sector, public or private, and also the situation of the unemployed young people and the students and their labour expectations.

Summary: This study, conducted every four years by the Basque Youth Observatory, is based on a house to house survey involving 1,500 young people aged 15 to 29 and reflects the opinions and attitudes of young people regarding a wide range of issues: family situation, education and occupation; assessment of their personal and social situation; political attitudes and participation; social values and attitudes; the Internet and social media; leisure, sport, culture and the Basque language; inequalities between men and women and health and sexuality.

Summary: With the publication of "Youth Emancipation 2015 in the Basque Country”, the Basque Youth Observatory is examining the difficulties and the conditions under which young people become independent.
The study is based on the answers given by people aged 16 to 29 to a specific survey on this subject. The same questions have been put to the 30 to 34 age group to study how the residential situation of young people changes, or not, as they get older. Overall, almost 2000 young people residing in the Basque Country aged 16 to 34 participated voluntarily in the survey.

Summary: Benjamín Tejerina, Beatriz Cavia, Elsa Santamaría and Diego Carbajo, authors of the research have pursued two objectives: first, to analyse the presence of precariousness as a daily occurrence in the fields of employment, family, social relationships and the socio-political participation of Basque youths, and, secondly, to show the different strategies used by young people to handle that precariousness.

Summary: The objective of this research project was to obtain information on the emancipation process followed by young people in the Basque Country, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies in an effort to understand the difficulties and obstacles they find and the strategies they use to overcome the said obstacles and become emancipated.
