In 2024, there was an improvement in the Youth Evaluation of the Present Index and the Personal Well-being Index. Employment-related indicators improve compared to the pandemic, especially the Job Expectancy Fit among student youth. Despite the fact that young people believe that their personal situation will improve over the next 5 years, the Confidence in the Future Index is falling, due to the general climate of uncertainty that is weighing down expectations regarding the evolution of the Basque Country and of young people as a group.
For twelve years now, the Aurrera Begira research has been analysing how Basque youth perceive the present and what their expectations for the future are in the short term.
This study was conceived as a synthetic instrument to measure the evolution of perceptions regarding the issues that most concern young people: employment, emancipation or motherhood/parenthood, etc.
In order to find out the perceptions of young people, 2,663 surveys were carried out on young people aged between 15 and 29 from 9 December 2024 to 8 January 2025.
The results of Aurrera Begira are structured around 10 indicators. The first three focus on the assessment of the present moment from a personal and collective point of view.
1. Evaluation of the Present Index
2. Personal Well-being Index
3. Balance of Vital Aspects
Next, four indicators focusing on employment expectations are analysed:
4. Risk of Job Loss or Job Precarisation
5. Expectation of Employment
6. Expectation of Fitful Employment
7. Expectation of Forced Emigration
Indicators 8 and 9 deal with expectations in relation to emancipation and parenthood:
8. Expectation of Truncated Emancipation
9. Delayed Childbearing and Delayed Parenthood Index
Finally, the tenth indicator analyses expectations in relation to the personal future, the future of young people and the future of the Basque Country in general:
10. Confidence in the Future Index
