The Basque Youth Observatory is organising a course titled 'Suicide Prevention: Gatekeeper Level 1 Programme' in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bilbao, and Donostia-San Sebastián. Jon García-Ormaza and Alexander Muela will be in charge of delivering the course.
Jon García-Ormaza is a psychiatrist at Osakidetza, head of suicide research at the Bizkaia Mental Health Network, member of the Biobizkaia Mental Health research group, PhD in Neurosciences and associate professor at the Department of Neurosciences of the UPV/EHU, and Alexander Muela holds a PhD in Psychology and is a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology of the UPV/EHU. He has been involved in several research projects related to suicide prevention and has published several papers linked to this field of research.
The overall purpose of the course is to enable professionals to recognise warning signs of suicidal behaviour in young people and to acquire the skills to respond appropriately and make referrals to specialised health services.
